As usual, the launch event has taken place online whilst the speaker is Tim Cook with his coworkers. Tim Cook started the launch in Steve Jobs theater. The main changes in the iOS are resembling the android features but they are rich in their appearance. Some of the key features are as follows.
iOS 14 contains an app library where it contains all the applications installed on the phone arranged based on the functionality. And there is a drop menu to access all the applications in a list view. There are folders like suggestions which shows the apps that user going to use next it is suggested using an ML algorithm which computes locally. Next comes the widgets. These are added newly to the OS. Every app can be used as a widget if it supports it. There are three shapes and they can be arranged in a smart stack. This smart stack changes based on the user requirement and usage of the widgets and applications timely based. Here comes the PIP mode. Picture in Picture mode can be used for most of the applications. I think they have copied that feature from android but they have given a touch to it. The Picture can be pushed to the end of the screen without losing the sound. The major change is Siri's Compact view. When the user is using the device for other applications Siri can be accessed and it doesn't occupy the whole screen instead a popup comes in the top for the search. For the translate, they have introduced a new app called translate which works offline and it doesn't store the voices. New changes came to iMessages. Like pinning the top chats, New memoji looks for the people. People can be mentioned in the text and notifications can be set to notify only when a user is mentioned. Group Profiles can be changed. And the user who is active there user picture is elongated. Maps are updated and they contain guides for the places and cycling directions are added as a new feature. EV Routing has also been added it shows the directions in which EV charging is available and how much does it take to get to the position. Digital Key for cars has been introduced. App clips are the feature with which one can use an application for the time's sake without installing the total application. Apple is going to use a new type of code that contain NFC and a new code called Apple code. Scribble can be used for the conversion of written text to text data. Airpods are coming with fast switching between the devices. They are going to introduce spatial sound similar to that of Dolby Atmos to AirPods. WatchOS is coming with new face sharing, Cycling algorithms, Sleep Tracking, Wind Down(sleep mode), and many more. They are using the ML techniques for efficient sleep tracking. A new feature for the sake of hand washing. Watch senses if the user is washing the hands and gives signs on how much time to wash and many more. A feature to phone if at all an application is using your microphone or camera then a notification light is shown. Privacy information is given in the app store itself for the user to know the application uses which type of data. A new OS is coming to Macs called BIG SUR. There is no current info on the OS. They are switching to Apple Silicon it is the conventional way of telling it is switching to ARM-based processor. They will continue to provide support to the present intel based devices also.
